2007 Tige’ Pro Am Championships Cancun, Mexico

November 8th, 2007 Posted in Wakeboarding News | No Comments »

Tige’ Boats certainly knows how to pick venues for wakeboarding competitions. Every couple years they have followed the tropical setting in places like Hawaii, Florida Keys and now this year Cancun, Mexico for the annual Tige Pro Am Championships. This event is different from all the other competitions throughout the year. It is set up in a “Skins” format. The winner of each heat or (skin) wins $500 and advances to the next heat. Rider with most “Skins” at the end wins overall. Team Hyperlite represented well this year at the Tige Pro Am with Brian Grubb taking 3rd in Wakeskate, Jimmy La Riche 3rd in Junior Men and AJ Racinelli clinching the 1st spot in Junior Men. This is also the final stop of the “King of Wake” series for the year, this series is accumulation of points from specific events that riders tally points and he who has most points at the end of the series is crowned “King of Wake”. Check out www.kingofwake.com for complete season results.

Wakeboarding Weather Tip

Wakeboarding Weather

Like most of you I’ve been in work this week checking the weather reports religiously hoping for some fine weather this weekend. I was especially hoping for low wind conditions as its been choppy the last couple of times I’ve been wakeboarding. The BBC’s weather report and the MET offices report where at times completely different. The MET office where quoting 6 mph wind on Saturday and clear conditions, mint I thought. Nevertheless, the good old BBC where quoting muggy and windy conditions for this Saturday with 16mph winds!! Anyway a good friend of mine who’s a surfing fanatic pointed me in the direction of this site called wind guru. I think its aimed at wind surfers and something people call kite surfing ;-) Anyway its got loads of detail about sea swell, wind direct and wind speed. Also its international and provides information for all over the world. I’ve know idea how useful it is for those lucky enough to live near little lakes though. So the wakeboarding tip for today is checkout http://www.windguru.cz for your pre wakeboarding weather.

There will be no more news, wakeboarding videos or wakeboarding tips until Tuesday as I’m off wakeboarding in 20minutes and taking Monday off!

Wakeboarding Glossary Video

October 2nd, 2007 Posted in How To Wakeboard | No Comments »

Wakeboarding glossary video “Trixionary” by Waketrix. Features explanations of progressive edge, leaning on the line, heal side, line tension, toe side and cutting in.

  • Progressive Edge – You edge in on your wakeboard and increase the amount of edge gradually, so that you reach your maximum edge at the top of the wake.
  • Leaning on the line – You lean against the boat on the tow rope. Keeping your chest behind your feet.
  • Heal Side – Travelling on the edge of the board closest to your heals.
  • Line Tension – The amount of slack in the tow rope, the tighter the better.
  • Toe Side – Travelling on the edge of the board closest to your toes, easier with one hand on the tow line.
  • Cutting In – Travelling from outside of the wake towards that wake.
